When my granddaughter, Katherine, turned one in July I still had not made her a quilt. I couldn’t quite find the right fabric or theme. I asked her older sister for suggestions and she told me, “Katherine doesn’t like blankets.” I think that was probably a mix of healthy sibling jealousy and truth.
About a month before Christmas I found zoo themed fabric at one of my favorite shops and I knew right away that I’d found what I was looking for. It was just the right fabric to capture a fun day my husband and I had at the zoo the last time we visited our granddaughters. Although Katherine is too little to remember the actual outing, I hope that she’ll enjoy the quilt for many years, and the story of the trip to the zoo will add to its provenance.
